Navitas English welcomes the significant changes to the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) which will allow even more migrants and refugees to learn invaluable English and employability skills.

 Navitas English has been delivering the AMEP on behalf of the Australian Government since 1998. The program helps migrants and refugees settle into Australia by teaching them English and supporting their transition into life in Australia through work and study options and pathways to employment.

The reforms, which come into effect from April 19, include:

  • Removing the current 510-hour limit on free English tuition;
  • Allowing clients to reach a vocational English level, beyond the current functional English attainment; and
  • Removing time limits for enrolling, starting and completing English tuition for eligible visa holders who were in Australia on or before October 1, 2020.

Navitas English General Manager, Jetinder Macfarlane, said this was an exciting time in the history of the AMEP, with the changes giving migrants and refugees the best chance possible to learn English, prepare for the workplace and integrate into society.

“The reforms will also enable past clients of the program to further develop their skills and engage with their communities,” Ms Macfarlane said.

“Our core purpose at Navitas English is to transform lives through education, and as an organisation, we are driven by outcomes for people, creating employment opportunities and continuous innovation to ensure that the services we provide are relevant to the needs and goals of our learners. These reforms will allow us to provide even more comprehensive English language, digital and employment-focused learning and support to more people and to better equip them for work and social integration.”

Navitas currently delivers the AMEP in Bankstown, Cabramatta, Fairfield, Liverpool and Canberra. For more information about our courses see https://navitas-skilled-futures.com.au/.
