Navitas Skilled Futures (NSF) in Fairfield was recognised for its huge contribution to the community, in a statement to the NSW Lower House by Dr David Saliba MP, member for Fairfield.

Navitas Skilled Futures (NSF) in Fairfield has been recognised by Fairfield MP Dr David Saliba for its huge contribution to the community, by supporting tens of thousands of new migrants and refugees with training through the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) and Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program.

Dr Saliba made a Community Recognition Statement in the NSW Legislative Assembly on Friday 23 March, in which he praised NSF’s commitment to supporting new arrivals, as well as diverse members of the community with education aimed at improved English language, literacy, numeracy, employability and digital skills.

He also mentioned specialised programs offered as part of the AMEP which NSF delivers on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs. NSF also delivers the SEE program on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

He said: “Navitas Skilled Futures Fairfield College has supported tens of thousands of new migrants and refugees in Fairfield. The diverse range of courses support individuals from various backgrounds and cultures to improve their language, literacy and numeracy, and assist them to access employment and enable career pathways.”

“Its specialty learning programs include digital literacy, English for Sewing, Preparation for Citizenship and English for Driving.”

Dr Saliba attended the NSF Fairfield graduation in December last year, which was funded by a Commonwealth Bank Community Donations Program grant decided by a community vote, in recognition of the college’s work supporting refugees and migrants in Western Sydney.

“I attended its annual graduation day in December last year to honour the accomplishments of its students. Hearing about their experiences and determination to make a better life for themselves in Australia was really inspiring. I thank the Navitas Skilled Futures team, including Basim Shamaon, Mehi Ajo, Reshmi Chaudhary, and many others, for all the work they do for our community.”

NSF celebrates students win

NSF’s AMEP Program Manager Aaron Caulfield said it was an honour to be recognised by Dr Saliba in parliament.

“At NSF we’re committed to supporting diverse and vulnerable people with training that makes a difference in their lives, whether that’s English language and practical life skills, or digital literacy,” he said.

This recognition honours not only our amazing staff named by Dr Saliba, but also our clients, who go on to achieve great things in Australia with the backing of their NSF education.”

Basim Shamaon, NSF Fairfield Stakeholder Engagement Manager said NSF’s commitment to supporting the community is bolstered by recognition from the local MP.

“When our clients arrive in Australia, they are often extremely vulnerable, unable to communicate in English and can feel isolated and afraid,” he said.

NSF gives them confidence, skills, community and most of all hope for building a brighter and more skilled future. It’s inspiring to see so many of our clients go on to build successful lives in Australia.

We consistently receive feedback that the support of trainers and staff at NSF made a huge difference in their settlement journeys and I’m very pleased Dr Saliba recognised that in parliament.”
