Navitas Skilled Futures and AMEP Helps Monikuntala Build a New Life with Workplace Readiness.
“Now I have many friends, and I can discuss any topics with them, even with my teacher. At the moment, I am fully settled in Australia. I am very grateful to my teacher as well as Navitas Skilled Futures.”

When Monikuntala first arrived in Australia from Bangladesh, learning English was a significant challenge. Back in her home country, she learned basic English but never had to speak English in everyday life. However, she understood that learning English and developing her literacy skills was essential for settling successfully in Australia, building connections in the community, and accessing future employment opportunities.
Determined to improve her language skills, she enrolled in Navitas Skilled Futures, to begin her learning journey and take the first step towards achieving her goals. She joined the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) at the NSF Campbelltown College in 2024 as a level 2 client. The AMEP is funded by the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs.
Overcoming Language Barriers in Australia
On her first day, she was pleasantly surprised by the welcoming and supportive learning environment. The trainer was friendly, respectful, and encouraging, which immediately helped her feel comfortable and motivated.
Speaking about her first day experience, Monikuntala says, “After finishing all the process, I came to class with my husband. I was really surprised to see the class environment and the behaviour of the teacher. It was opposite of my country.”
Monikuntala found the course content practical, easy to follow, and tailored to her learning needs. “The teacher made the course content easy for me. I tried to attend the class regularly and timely. I followed the teacher’s instructions and guidelines. She is not only my English teacher; she is my pioneer also. Before, I was shy and scared of speaking English. But now I am confident about speaking.”
Thriving in a Welcoming Learning Environment
Through her dedication and the support of her trainer, Monikuntala gradually built her confidence in using English and developed the skills needed to participate fully in daily life in Australia.
“Now I have many friends, and I can discuss any topics with them, even with my teacher. At the moment, I am fully settled in Australia. I am very grateful to my teacher as well as Navitas Skilled Futures.”
Over the past year, Monikuntala has demonstrated a strong commitment to building skills and improving her employability opportunities by successfully completing both Computer and Conversation classes provided by the AMEP.
With free AMEP English, Literacy and Digital classes Monikuntala acquired conversational skills to interact effectively in her everyday life and gained digital skills to navigate the internet, use email, and understand basic functions in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Expanding Skills and Building a Successful Future
Looking ahead, Monikuntala plans to continue developing both her English language skills and professional capabilities while expanding her business. She has also enrolled into the upcoming AMEP Citizenship class.
Monikuntala has taken an entrepreneurial path by establishing a small business, which is now operating successfully. “I have worked as a casual at Chatswood Westfield for two months and been volunteering as a shop assistant at Vinnies for more than one year. I have an ABN for my business as I run a small catering service. In the future, I have a plan to focus and extend that.”
“Along with my studies and small business, I also look after my family and socialise with my extended family and friends. I made Australia my new home.”
Monikuntala’s determination to pursue further learning alongside growing her enterprise reflects resilience, ambition, and commitment to creating a stable and successful future in Australia.
