Achieving a qualification
To receive a certificate, you must:
- Attend classes regularly,
- Complete coursework, and
- Successfully complete assessments.
Extra study outside class is recommended.
A Statement of Attainment will be awarded for successfully completed units of competency.

Common EAL questions
1. What will I learn in the EAL course?
English as an Additional Language (EAL) courses are formal, accredited qualifications that help you build English language, settlement and employability skills in Australia. These courses are delivered through government-funded programs such as the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) and Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program.
You can begin at an initial or beginner level and progress through to Certificate I, Certificate II or Certificate III in EAL. Because these EAL certificates make up the core educational curriculum of the AMEP and SEE programs, studying an EAL course will teach you:
– Speaking, listening, reading and writing
– Everyday communication and Australian life skills
– Workplace English and employability skills
– Basic digital skills, computer skills and numeracy, depending on your certificate
2. How do I enrol in the EAL course with NSF?

To enrol in an EAL course with NSF, complete our EAL enquiry form or call 1300 798 111 to speak with someone in your own language. Our team will check your eligibility, answer your questions and arrange an interview or language assessment to place you in the right EAL level. Workforce Australia participants can also ask their provider for a referral.
3. How do I get started with the EAL course?
To get started with an EAL course, contact us to check your eligibility and book a short assessment or pre-training interview. Our friendly team will assess your current English level, discuss your goals and help place you in the right EAL course level, from initial English through to Certificate I, II or III.
4. Will I receive a certificate after completing an EAL course?
Yes. Successful students can receive a nationally recognised EAL certificate after completing an accredited course level, such as Initial EAL, Course in EAL, Certificate I, Certificate II or Certificate III in EAL. You may also receive a Statement of Attainment for completed units, giving you formal recognition of your English language skills.
5. Where can I study the EAL course with NSF?
You can study an EAL course at selected NSF colleges in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. Visit our colleges page to view campus locations and find an EAL course near you. You can also contact our team to discuss available classes and the location that best suits your needs.
6. What if I am not eligible for the EAL course?
If you are not eligible for a particular EAL course, contact our team to discuss other study options. Depending on your English level, visa status and goals, you may be eligible for an introductory EAL course, free AMEP or SEE training, another foundation skills program, or a pathway into vocational education.
