Navitas Skilled Futures Supports Morteza’s English and Literacy Development Through the SEE Program.

“SEE program has helped me to improve my English and regain my confidence. Now I feel happy that I can return to Taekwondo events and continue working in the sport I love.”

Morteza Sadafian moved to Australia in 2019 as an international Taekwondo referee from Iran. While he brought strong professional experience in sport, his biggest challenge was the language barrier.
Determination over Challenges
Determined to rebuild his English language skills and reconnect with community, Morteza remained focused on his goals for future. He wanted to improve his English communication skills, build connection in the community, and return to work in sport as a Taekwondo referee or coach.
Recommended by a friend, Morteza decided to join Navitas Skilled Futures Parramatta College and enrol in the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program, in April 2025. The Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
Learning and Building
Through consistent attendance and active participation in the SEE Program, Morteza significantly improved his speaking, reading, and writing skills. This constant improved enable Morteza to communicate comfortably with classmates, teachers, and community members.
“I especially enjoy the community and outdoor activities offered through the SEE program, which helped me reconnect with people and feel part of the community again,” shares Morteza. He now hopes to continue contributing to Taekwondo in Australia as a coach or referee, using both his international experience and his improved English skills.
He was invited to referee at Australian Taekwondo events when needed and he successfully participated as a referee, reconnecting with his professional passion for the sport. Morteza has also shown strong community engagement by volunteering in the Employment Accelerator Program, gaining valuable experience.
A Fresh Start
Morteza’s journey demonstrates how the SEE Program supports both language development and personal growth, helping participants rebuild confidence, reconnect with the community, and move toward meaningful employment opportunities.
Speaking about his experience with the SEE Program, Morteza says, “SEE program has helped me to improve my English and regain my confidence. Now I feel happy that I can return to Taekwondo events and continue working in the sport I love.”
Beyond building language proficiency, the SEE Program also creates a supportive and structured environment where participants can set personal goals and develop pathways toward future careers. Through tailored learning plans and practical, real-world communication skills, learners are encouraged to build independence and resilience.
For participants like Morteza, this integrated approach not only strengthens their ability to navigate daily life in Australia but also empowers them to re-engage with their passions and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
