Clients who are enrolled in the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) are also eligible for the ‘Pathways to Work’ (PtW, SLPET) program.


Pathways to Work is an opportunity for AMEP clients to gain work skills and valuable local work experience in Australia. 


The program is also known as Settlement Language Pathways to Employment and Training or SLPET.


The program offers: 

  • 120-160 hours of in-class learning 
  • 40-80 hours of work experience 
  • Industry-specific training 
  • Resume writing 
  • Interview support 
  • Nationally accredited training  

Which industries can studies focus on?

The Pathways to Work (PtW, SLPET) program offers you training in a variety of vocational areas, shown below plus hospitality, sales and marketing and warehousing and RF scanning. Find out more with our Pathways to Work flyer.

Childcare

Do you love kids? Make it your career with this course. You’ll learn how to support children to be their best, and to get ready to apply for roles in childcare centres.

Customer Service/Retail

Customer service skills are essential for many industries, not just retail. Developing empathy, problem solving, communication and listening skills is key for any career development.

Admin/Office Skills

If you’d like to work in an office, this course is for you. Helping to support you to learn skills for administration roles, this course will have you feeling confident and ready to apply.

Aged Care & Home Care

There is an enormous need for support workers in the growing aged care and home care sectors, and these rewarding roles are wonderful for those who love to give back.

Beauty

The beauty industry is seeing massive growth, and this course will prepare you to apply for one of the many jobs available. If you love helping people to feel their best, this course is for you.

Workplace Communication for Professionals

This course supports you into a professional role; helping you to improve your communication via phone, email and in person, and is industry non-specific for anyone wanting to grow these skills.


You’re eligible for Pathways to Work if you: 

  • Are currently enrolled in the AMEP pre-employment English stream
  • Have attended the AMEP in the past 12 months 
  • Can demonstrate reasonable progression in tuition
  • Have had your settlement needs largely resolved
  • Already have the necessary communication skills to participate in a workplace
  • Have the motivation and commitment to attend the SLPET course
  • Have a genuine desire to be employed and able to accept a job at the end of your SLPET course

Why enrol in the Pathways to Work (PtW, SLPET) course?

  • It may be your first step to gaining employment in Australia. Pathways to Work will boost your employability skills as you become more confident with job searches, interview skills and collating your resume
  • It offers opportunities to study and gain local work experience in suitable industries with your employment goals in mind
  • There is 8 weeks in-class learning and then 2 weeks work experience (organised by NSF)
  • You will develop self-confidence, skills and be supported to study and attain nationally accredited training units
  • NSF is flexible and responsive to industry needs and also what communities and organisations suggest they need.
