From Kabul to Sydney: Safa’s success story
In 2021, Safa embarked on a challenging journey from Kabul, Afghanistan, leaving behind her family and homeland. As she navigated the transition to life in Australia, Safa discovered a supportive and inclusive community at Navitas Skilled Futures (NSF), prompting her to enrol in the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) at NSF’s Liverpool campus in south-west Sydney.
The AMEP, a free service funded by the Australian Government, provided Safa with the platform to enhance her English language and digital skills, essential for effective communication and integration into Australian society. Reflecting on her experience, Safa expressed gratitude for the invaluable support she received.
“NSF helped me tremendously with language and social skills, and I also made some friends there. The skills I learned allowed me to adjust to Australian culture and pursue personal goals and dreams, like learning to drive.”

Safa’s determination and hard work bore fruit as she achieved her Certificate III in Early Childhood Education, a milestone that opened doors to a fulfilling career. She now works at a childcare centre, where she finds joy and fulfilment in her role. “I really enjoy it there,” she said. “Every day you’re learning new things, and it is a happy environment to be in.”
Safa’s journey mirrors that of many others who have migrated to Australia. According to the Department of Home Affairs’ latest figures, there were 71,950 Afghan-born people living in Australia at the end of June 2022, highlighting the growing diversity and contributions of Afghans to Australian society.
“We are immensely proud of her accomplishments and the positive impact she has made in her community. Safa’s story inspires us all and reaffirms our commitment to supporting individuals like her in their pursuit of success and fulfilment.”

Navitas Skilled Futures General Manager, Jetinder Macfarlane, congratulated Safa on her achievements and successful transition into Australian society. “Safa’s journey is symbolic of the nurturing and welcoming community at Navitas Skilled Futures,” Ms Macfarlane said.
