Navitas Skilled Futures and Workforce Australia

By Verity Rose | February 6, 2025

If you’re a new Australian looking for support in securing employment, or you’re receiving payments from Centrelink, you may have heard of Workforce Australia.

But what does Workforce Australia do, how are they connected to Centrelink and what does Navitas Skilled Futures have to do with this service?

In this blog post, the team from Navitas Skilled Futures is here to answer some common questions about Workforce Australia, including the services they offer, how their points system works and how our programs can help you earn points towards your target.

What does Workforce Australia do?

Workforce Australia is an online, government-based employment service available to all Australians. It allows you to search and apply for job opportunities and can help you find training and support providers to assist in your job search journey.

If you’re receiving Centrelink benefits, Workforce Australia will also allow you to view your mutual obligation requirements, including the number of jobs you need to apply for during a reporting period.

How is Workforce Australia linked to Centrelink?

When you apply to receive Centrelink benefits from the Australian government, you will have mutual obligation requirements to meet.

These obligations are tracked using Workforce Australia’s Points Based Activation System (PBAS). Through this system, you have the flexibility to choose which activities you’d like to complete to help you meet your individual points target.

If you don’t meet your points target within the set reporting period, your Centrelink payment may be put on hold or cancelled.

How to meet your PBAS points target

Each eligible activity you choose to complete for your points target is worth a different number of points. Some examples of activities that can help you earn points include:

  • submitting job applications – 5 points
  • attending job interviews – 25 points
  • volunteering in the community – 5 to 10 points
  • completing a registered training program – 25 points per week.

How Navitas Skilled Futures can help you earn points

Navitas Skilled Futures is a registered training provider offering the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program – an eligible training program to help you earn 25 points per week towards your PBAS target.

This government-funded program is free for participants and has been designed to help you build your language, literacy, maths and digital skills.

The SEE program can also help you learn to manage your finances, improve workplace communication, prepare for job interviews and enhance your confidence.

You won’t have any Centrelink job search requirements while completing the SEE program.

How do I enrol in the SEE program?

The SEE program is available to Australian citizens or eligible visa holders who are aged 15 years or over and have left school.

Once you’ve become a registered job seeker with Centrelink, you can enrol in the SEE program by:

  • using the Workforce Australia Online portal, or
  • asking your employment services provider to refer you to Navitas Skilled Futures.

If you’re not receiving a Centrelink payment, you can enrol in the SEE program with us directly.
