Chutan’s Job Readiness Journey with the SEE Program.

Chutan arrived in Australia from Thailand in 2009 alongside her mother, determined to build a successful life in her new home. However, her personal and professional progress was limited with low English-speaking skills and lack of confidence.
To pursue her long-term dream career in Aged Care, Chutan realised that she needed structured support to build the essential skills and confidence. In 2025, Chutan decided to enrol in the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program at the Navitas Skilled Futures (NSF) Cabramatta college.
The Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
Chutan walked into NSF with a simple short-term focus; to improve her foundational Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills.
A Multi-Layer Support Plan
The NSF Cabramatta team worked on a multi-layer support plan to help her overcome the barriers. In November 2025, Chutan was introduced to the Student Representative Council (SRC) framework.
The SRC is the student voice at NSF, acting as a link between students and NSF staff. They share student feedback, concerns, and suggestions with the staff, communicate important information to their classmates, encourage participation in classroom activities, and help enhance the overall learning experience.
Participating in community-focused group and class activities helped boost Chutan’s social confidence and classroom engagement. Speaking on her growth, Chutan says, “Before I came to Navitas, I feel scared to talk and low confidence. Now I am not scared. I came to Navitas because I want to improve my reading and writing and build my confidence.”
In addition to improving her English and developing her LLND skills, Chutan also learned the practical ways to recognise phone frauds and SMS phishing. Her SEE Participant Support Officer connected Chutan with a targeted Scam Awareness Information Session delivered by Services Australia Multicultural Service Officers that helped her understand how to “keep her money safe” in a digital world.
The NSF support team also helped her to successfully submit the Transport Concession Entitlement card renewal form, eliminating financial travel barriers and save money.
“The travel concession card help made it easy for me to save my money. Thank you Navitas for helping me grow,” shares Chutan.
The Job Readiness
Chutan continued to build her workplace skills through a series of Economic Participation Outcome Job Readiness modules designed to help participants prepare for employment in Australia.
Through the modules, Chutan successfully completed the career readiness foundational blocks, such as:
- Australian workplace culture, and communication, including how to follow workplace procedures such as notifying an employer when unable to attend work.
- Formal Workplace Health & Safety instructions, which was critical for Chutan to learn about.
- Navigating Workforce Australia platforms, using job websites, and analysing job advertisements.
- Functional digital skills needed for safe workplace operations.
One Step Closer to the Goal
Recently, Chutan successfully transferred into the Pathways to Aged Care preparation course. Thanks to her unwavering dedication, the continuous support of the NSF teachers and staff, she is now one step closer to her career goal.
Reflecting on her latest achievement, Chutan says, “Now that I am in the Aged Care course, I feel happy and proud of myself.”
From starting the SEE program with limited confidence to now preparing for a future in Aged Care, Chutan has made considerable progress. Her journey proves the effectiveness of the SEE program in pairing language skills training with comprehensive support to help participants work towards their employment and future goals.
