​A partnership between Navitas Skilled Futures Canberra and a local social enterprise café has served up some valuable hospitality and customer service experience for refugee and migrant women, with a side of English lessons.

The project ran over a term and included classroom preparation and planning, culminating in hands-on experience at the café split over two days in June.

It was a cold, wet morning in Canberra on Thursday but inside a converted 1920s homestead on the outskirts of the territory, the mood couldn’t have been warmer or brighter.

Refugee women from around the world welcomed the Hon. Alex Hawke MP to breakfast at Café Stepping Stone as part of Refugee Week celebrations hosted by Navitas Skilled Futures.
