Navitas English welcomes landmark SEE reforms
Navitas English welcomes the significant changes to the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program which will allow even more jobseekers to get the skills and support needed to succeed in the workplace.
Navitas English has been delivering the SEE program, funded by the Department of Education, Skills and Employment since 2005. The program provides free language, literacy, numeracy, digital and employment skills and support for gaining employment and workplace success.
The reforms, which came into effect in August 2021, include:
- Removed caps on funding so that Employment Service Providers can assist more job seekers
- Expansion of eligibility to include carers on support payments, job seekers not on income support and retrenched workers registered with a jobactive provider. Job seekers will still need to be registered as looking for work with Services Australia.
Even better reforms coming in January 2022:
- Removed time limits for the 650-hour training entitlement cap, to allow job seekers more time to complete a qualification. SEE clients will have two years in a single referral period to complete one or more courses/qualifications.
- Increased focus on digital literacy skills for success.
Navitas English General Manager, Jetinder Macfarlane, said this was an exciting time in the history of the SEE program, with the changes giving even more job seekers the skills they need to succeed in the workplace.
“The reforms will also enable jobseekers even more time to achieve their goals, and complete further training,” Ms Macfarlane said.
“Our core purpose at Navitas Skilled Futures is to transform lives through education, and as an organisation, we are driven by outcomes for people, creating employment opportunities and continuous, innovation to ensure that the services we provide are relevant to the needs and goals of our clients. These reforms will allow us to provide even more people with the training and support they need to achieve their employment goals, with particular focus on digital skills in a changing world.”
Navitas English currently delivers the SEE program in Auburn, Bankstown, Cabramatta, Fairfield, Liverpool and Parramatta, and will re-commence delivery in Campbelltown and Miller. Find out more information here.
