English for Swimming Resource Pack & Guide
We are so proud to launch our English for Swimming Book: a resource pack and guide to running our English for Swimming program for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities in Australia.
This pack is designed for any learning provider centre wishing to run a program that combines English classes with a learn-to-swim program designed specifically for adults. First developed by Navitas Skilled Futures in Bankstown, Sydney, in proud partnership with Different Strokes Swimming – a Sydney-based learn-to-swim school solely for adults – this award winning program has assisted migrants and refugees to gain a new skill, become more self-confident and feel empowered.
The aim of this book is to provide a resource for other providers to run a similar program. It includes suggested learning materials, advice on how to partner with swimming centres or swimming organisations and links to instructional videos and virtual reality videos aimed at showcasing technique and addressing fear.
Navitas Skilled Futures Learning Designer and swimming instructor Michelle Cowans hopes the book will help prevent drowning deaths in the CALD community and foster a love of swimming.
