Building Confidence Through Community: A Successful Collaboration between Navitas Skilled Futures and Sabian Mandaean Association.

Navitas Skilled Futures (NSF) Liverpool College is proud to be partnering with the Sabian Mandaean Association to support their congregation members in building practical, everyday language skills. Through the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) Everyday English Outreach Course, participants are developing the English skills they need to thrive in daily life. The AMEP is funded by the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs.
The course provides a familiar environment for participants to make new friends within their congregation at the Sabian Mandaean Association facilities, while improving their reading, speaking, and pronunciation.
Over the past weeks, the participants have been able to expand their everyday vocabulary, build confidence, and gain a better understanding of Australian culture and local traditions.
Now in its fourth week, the collaboration has been an outstanding success, with 100% attendance throughout the program. This enthusiastic participation reflects not only the dedication of the learners but also the strength of the partnership behind the program.

Speaking on the success, Jetinder Macfarlane, General Manager, Navitas Skilled Futures shares, “Seeing participants attend every session with so much enthusiasm has been inspiring. Their commitment shows just how powerful community-based learning can be. They are gaining independence and self-belief to make them feel more connected and confident in the community.”
NSF has experienced trainers who deliver well‑structured and relevant courses, ensuring participants benefit from high‑quality, purposeful language learning. At the same time, the Sabian Mandaean Association has created a warm and culturally supportive environment that helps learners feel comfortable, connected, and confident as they continue their learning journey.
“It is more than an English language class, it is a space where people feel supported, welcomed, and confident to try something new. Watching participants confidence grow each week reminds us why partnerships like this matter. We are not just teaching language, but helping people build their future,” says Aaron Caulfield, AMEP Program Manager, Navitas Skilled Futures.
“From speaking with doctors, communicating with schools, applying for jobs, or simply feeling more confident in conversations, the AMEP program is providing an opportunity for participants to meet their life goals.”
NSF delivers the AMEP program directly within local communities, bringing classes to places where learners feel comfortable. This flexible, community‑based approach ensures AMEP is accessible to participants through outreach sites, schools, and community centres. By bringing classes to where people meet, and already feel connected, NSF removes the barriers to participation.
Together, this partnership is doing more than teaching English, it is empowering individuals to learn new skills and strengthening community connections. This is a wonderful example of what can happen when education and community come together with a shared purpose.
