Navitas Skilled Futures ACT and West Melbourne Colleges Celebrate Harmony Day with Stories of Culture, Connection, and Belonging.

By Pallabi Patra | April 7, 2026

Harmony Day across Navitas Skilled Futures colleges was a vibrant celebration of culture, connection, and belonging. From shared stories and traditional dress to food, music, and creative expression, students and staff came together to honour the diverse backgrounds that enrich the NSF community.

Guided by the message that ‘Everyone Belongs’, each campus marked the day in meaningful ways that fostered respect, inclusion, and a sense of unity.

Bringing Culture to Life Through Food, Language, and Connection

Students from the Advanced Speaking and Listening class and the Academic English class at the NSF Canberra college joined together to celebrate Harmony Day by bringing a plate of food from their home countries to share.

They took the opportunity to speak about their dishes and the cultural stories behind them. The class enjoyed using the Bring a Plate resources from SBS Learn English to practice their speaking.

To mark the Harmony Day, students also collaborated on a vibrant wall display, using vocabulary that reflected positive feelings such as belonging, respect, and unity. The celebrations were enriched with fun and interactive language activities, including food trivia, games, and singing ‘I Am Australian,’ creating an inclusive and joyful learning environment for everyone.

Collaboration and Belonging at NSF Werribee

The Harmony Day celebration at the NSF Werribee college was a bright and joyful celebration centred on the message “Everyone Belongs.” Students took part in thoughtful discussions and learning activities focused on inclusion, cultural diversity, and respect for one another’s backgrounds.

The highlight of the day was a collaborative art project created by the entire class which is now displayed in the classroom. The artwork will serve as a daily reminder of the strength that comes from working together and celebrating differences.

Fashion, Food, and Storytelling

The NSF St. Albans college was filled with colour and excitement as students and staff came together to honour Harmony Day. The celebration began with participants arriving in vibrant traditional clothing representing countries from around the world, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

A major highlight was the Harmony Day fashion parade, where students and staff confidently displayed cultural outfits and explained their significance. The parade was met with enthusiastic applause, reinforcing the deep respect and admiration shared within the group.

Cultural food was another favourite, with dishes from different cuisines that carried a story, memory, or family tradition, and taste testing became an opportunity for learning and connection.

In preparation for the event, students also developed their language and writing skills by creating invitations and reflective pieces about their home countries or cultures. These writings were displayed, forming an inspiring gallery of stories, artwork, and individual experiences.

A Heart-Warming Celebration

Harmony Day at the NSF Sunshine college was a truly heartwarming celebration of the cultures, stories, and talents that makes NSF such a special place. Students led a series of cultural workshops, from sushi-making to chopsticks skills sessions, encouraging one another, and celebrating every small success.

Craft workshops added bursts of creativity, with rosettes and colourful window displays, reflecting what Harmony Day means to the school community.

The celebration concluded on a moving note, with staff and students joining together to perform “Navitas Is Our New Home,” a beautiful song created by NSF teacher Samar. The performance perfectly captured the spirit of Harmony Day.

Together, these celebrations highlighted the power of cultural exchange and shared experiences in creating welcoming learning environments. Through food, art, language, and storytelling, students and staff strengthened connections and affirmed that diversity is not only recognised but genuinely celebrated at Navitas Skilled Futures.
