A Celebration of Belonging: Harmony Week Brings Navitas Skilled Futures, NSW Community Together.

By Pallabi Patra | April 2, 2026

“It’s like, being away from home, and in a couple of hours we feel like we belong to many places all at once and they all feel like home.”

Harmony Day brought Navitas Skilled Futures’ (NSF) college communities together in the most inspiring way, through shared food, cultural pride, creativity, music, and connection. Across all campus’s students, teachers, and staff celebrated by honouring diversity and inclusion, while embracing the shared belief that; ‘everyone belongs.’

Friendship at the Heart of Harmony

At the Navitas Skilled Futures Bankstown college, Harmony Day began with a beautiful visual reminder of unity. Students from diverse cultural backgrounds came together to make friendship bracelets. This simple yet significant moment served as a powerful symbol of unity and expression of friendship that transcends beyond borders, languages, and cultures.

Creativity and Community in Action

Harmony Day celebrations at the NSF Liverpool college highlighted creativity as a powerful way to express belonging. Students worked together to create vibrant handprint artwork, symbolising that everyone has a place in the community.

The sewing class presented a handmade blanket featuring a tree surrounded by flags from around the world, a beautiful representation of growth, diversity, and shared roots. The NSF staff also jumped into the celebratory mood wearing matching Harmony Day T- shirts.

The celebrations continued into the afternoon with an amazing fashion parade displaying traditional outfits from various countries, followed by live performances such as Thai and Salsa dance. Staff and students came together to perform “Heal the World,” and a generous sharing of food from diverse cultures. Each element contributed to an atmosphere filled with warmth and connection, reminding everyone that diversity truly strengthens us.

“Harmony Day is always a lovely day at Navitas Skilled Futures, but this year, with the state the world is currently in, Harmony Day at the Liverpool college was a heart-warming, much needed reminder of what peace, joy and acceptance can look like,” said Shelley Barons, Academic Team Leader – Liverpool and Campbelltown.

“It was a joyful melting pot of cultures, religions, and ages, celebrating both our diversity, evident in the stunning array of national costumes, the shared love of food, music, art, and good friends. It made me feel lucky and proud to be part of the NSF family.”

A Celebration of Culture and Heritage

The NSF Cabramatta college came alive with colour, music, and an infectious energy as students celebrated the richness of their cultures. Each class brought an extensive spread of their favourite traditional dishes, with students educating others about their food.

The celebrations extended beyond food, with traditional dances, games, and a lively fashion parade bringing the campus to life, creating moments of laughter and connection throughout the day. Students along with the teachers also performed to “I am Australian” song.

Celebrating Success and Diverse Culture

Harmony Day celebrations at the NSF Parramatta college began with a warm Welcome and Acknowledgement of Country, setting a meaningful tone for the day. This was followed by a special recognition of student participation and success, with certificates awarded to celebrate individual achievements and contributions.

The celebrations highlighted cultural pride through captivating performances, including traditional Chinese square dance, and the elegant 28‑Style Tai Chi Fan dance. Students also took the opportunity to share insights into the origins and significance of their traditional costumes, fostering learning and appreciation across the community.

Festivities continued with a vibrant traditional costume parade, bringing colour and energy to the campus. The celebration concluded with the joyful sharing of food from a wide range of cultures.

More Than a Week of Celebration

Across every campus, Harmony Week was more than a series of events. It reflected NSF’s values—kindness, respect, and inclusion. Through food, art, music, storytelling, and collaboration, students and staff demonstrated what harmony looks like in action.

Speaking on the spirit of Harmony Week celebrations, Nourhan Elsawy, Bilingual Support Assistant at NSF said, “It’s like, being away from home, and in a couple of hours we feel like we belong to many places all at once and they all feel like home.”

Together, we celebrated not only our differences, but the connections that bring us together and make our NSF college communities feel like home.
